A list of Premier League players with the best pass completion percentage this season

A list of Premier League players with the best pass completion percentage this season

A Manchester United defender tops the list alongside a host of Man City players.

You may be surprised to learn that Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has ended the 2022/23 season with the highest pass percentage in England's top flight.

The 28-year-old Swede successfully completed 866 of his 930 passes during the campaign, which equates to 93.1%

Lindelof, who made 20 Premier League appearances for Erik ten Hag's side this season, has certainly stepped up in the absence of Lisandro Martinez after the Argentine defender fractured a metatarsal bone in his foot.

He only misplaced one of his 42 passes in United's penultimate game against Chelsea – and impressed in their final game against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

As a result of his good form, Ten Hag reportedly wants to trigger Lindelof's contract extension.

So who else features on the FBREF list? Manchester City centre-back pairing Manuel Akanji and John Stones are placed just behind Lindelof in the pass competition standings with 93%, while teammate Ruben Dias recorded a total of 92.7%.

Rodri [91.2%], Daniel Amartey [91.1%], William Saliba [91%], Thiago Silva [90.9%], Virgil van Dijk [90.5%] and Nathan Ake [90.4%] make up the top 10.

Stats website FBREF, of course, have minimum requirements to qualify for the overall season list, with appearances being taken into consideration.

Man Utd forward Facundo Pellistri, for example, recorded 93.8% of his passes but he only completed 15 out of a possible 16 passes during substitute appearances against Leeds, Fulham, Southampton and Newcastle.

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk narrowly missed out on the top 10 after completing 90.3% of his passes, as did Gabriel, Wesley Fofana, Ezri Konsa, Moises Caicedo and Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele.

Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi recently claimed Steele was good enough to play for England.

"We will work in the next season to help Jason Steele to achieve the same target of Lewis Dunk because he has the quality to achieve one target so important.

"In my vision, in my idea, Jason Steele is a top keeper. It's difficult to find another keeper of this level.

"I study football 24 hours per day but it's very hard to find another keeper with this quality."
