That must be some sort of world record...

I'm sure that over the years, you've played in an intense Sunday League game where tensions have boiled over and some cards have been dished out by the referee.

It happens. The competitive nature of football means that when frustration and emotion kicks in, things happen and the referee has to act.

But the Copa MX game between Toluca and Morelia recently (which I'm sure you all tuned in for) is an extreme example of how players can lose the plot in an instance.

That's because, incredibly, THREE Toluca players were sent off in the space of 30 seconds, which is absolutely bonkers and must be some sort of world record.

With the round of 16 game poised at 2-2 and five minutes of normal time remaining, midfielder Jesus Mendez, already on a yellow card and eager to regain possession, was judged to have fouled an opposition player and was subsequently shown a second yellow and then a red by the referee.

However, his incensed teammates then made matters worse when they demonstrated right in front of the official, put their hands on him and presumably had a few expletives come out of their mouths.

First goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera was given a second yellow for his protests.

And then Enrique Triverio was given his marching orders when he sarcastically clapped the referee's decision to send his goalkeeper off and then pushed the man in the middle.

You can watch the comical turn of events here:

Toluca would go on to be beaten 3-0 on penalties and their sheer stupidity was certainly a factor in them getting knocked out of the Copa MX 2017.

Crazy stuff.

Have you played in a game that featured so many red cards in such a short space of time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
