Tottenham Hotspur were up against Barcelona on Tuesday night

Tottenham Hotspur fans were given a taste of what is to come after the players produced a brilliant passage of play against Barcelona.

On Tuesday night, Spurs were up against Barcelona for the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were down 1-0 after just three minutes after Robert Lewandowski scored. Oliver Skipp then scored a brace to give Spurs a 2-1 lead.

However, Barcelona scored three times in the last 10 minutes to win the match 4-2.

Despite the defeat, Postecoglou’s side did produce some brilliant football. At the start of the second half, the Spurs players showed great composure as they played out from the back.

Spurs managed to build an attack from their own box as they passed their way through the Barcelona press.

Fans were quick to react on social media.

One said: “Spurs just played more football in 30 seconds than in the previous 3 years.”

Another tweeted: “Can’t wait to see all those Spurs fans eat humble pie after saying they didn’t want him! We told ya’s!”

A third fan added: “The way Ange got us at Celtic playing max, believe us when we tell you he’s a top manager.”

Someone else wrote: “Absolutely in awe over the fact that we could press, and play through their press.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “That’s Angeball in action. Get used to it mate.”

After the match, Postecoglou said: “The first half was good, really good. Barca got the jump on us with that first goal, but the lads reacted really well, our football was good, we pressed really aggressively, and you could see they were uncomfortable with that.

“I was really pleased, but we ran out of legs a little in the second half. To be fair to the boys, they gave everything, you could see that some of the boys couldn’t even run at the end. It was my decision not to make too many substitutions today, and to leave guys at home.”
