Diogo Jota's death was announced to MPs in the Houses of Parliament in a heartbreaking moment.
Liverpool player Jota died in a car crash on Thursday morning in Spain.
A report from zamora24horas states the 28-year-old and his brother and fellow footballer, Andre, were involved in a fatal accident that occurred in Zamora, in northwestern Spain.
His passing comes just weeks after he married his childhood sweetheart as his devastating final social media has emerged in the wake of his death.
Local authorities said: "Two young people die in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria).
"The Rionegro del Puente Fire Station (Northern Zone of the @DiputacionZA Consortium) responded.
"The vehicle caught fire, and the flames spread to the vegetation.
"They were 28 and 26 years old. RIP."

She said: "We just received the heartbreaking news a moment a go before we came into the chamber that he tragically lost his life at just 28 years of age. I think the whole house is heartbroken by this news and I wanted to send our sympathies to his friends and family on behalf of the whole house."
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in the summer of 2020 and made 182 appearances across all competitions, scoring 65 goals.
Liverpool's statement read: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
"The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
"Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
"We will continue to provide them with our full support."
