Thierry Henry once claimed that former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes was 'the greatest Premier League player of the last 15 years' during a brilliant 2015 interview.

The former Arsenal forward has often been vocal about his admiration for Scholes.

In a segment on Monday Night Football last year, Henry was asked by a fan if there were any players - current or former - with whom he would like to have played with and the former England international was mentioned.

Sky Sports presenter Ed Chamberlain asked the above question to Henry and after a brief pause, he replied: "Paul Scholes" before explaining why.

"The next one would have been, right behind, very close, Stevie G. But I have to go with Paul Scholes.

"He was just ahead in his head. He made Manchester United tick. Every time we were playing them we needed to find a way to stop him.

"It's true. I think Stevie G comes really close to him. But Paul Scholes would have to win."

But years previously, Henry was asked who he thinks the best player in England's top flight was over the past 15 years and without any hesitation, the Frenchman responded with conviction.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes was, in his opinion, the greatest.

"I would have to go Paul Scholes," Henry told Sky News presenter Kay Burley in 2015.

"I don't think people have given him the credit he deserves. One of the best, if not the best, I've played against, he could do anything.

"Unfortunately for him, when he was playing for the national team, for England, sometimes people didn't see it like that.

"If I had a Paul Scholes in my team, everything would be around him. At Manchester United, they saw it like that, but I think Paul Scholes is one of the best I've played against in this league, and seen anywhere."

The debate as to who is the greatest Premier League player of all time has been rife on social media of late. Thierry Henry, in fact, has been listed as the league's greatest ever player by FourFourTwo magazine.

The former Arsenal man lit up England during his time in North London, helping them to multiple Premier League titles.

And FourFourTwo ranked him to beat other icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney to top spot in a top 50 list.
