Steven Gerrard brilliantly shut down a question about returning to Liverpool during his Aston Villa press conference.

Gerrard was confirmed as Villa boss last week after leaving his managerial role at Rangers.

He takes charge of his first Premier League game this weekend, with his new team hosting Brighton.

Villa then have league fixtures against Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Leicester City before visiting Anfield on December 15.

The Liverpool legend was asked about his impending trip to Merseyside in his presser on Thursday.

But he batted away the question about his former club, saying the press conference should be about Villa.

"I don't think this press conference should be about any other club but Aston Villa," he said. "I'm all in and I can promise our supporters that's the case."

The 41-year-old added: "I think everyone around the world knows what Liverpool means to me, but the focus and my commitment is very much at Aston Villa."

Fans online loved Gerrard's response.

One Twitter user wrote: "Absolutely right. It's not about Liverpool. It's about Aston Villa now for him. Let the man do his job there for them."

A second tweeted: "Hope Gerrard does well at Villa, he's well spoken and something about him I feel he'll be a success."

A third added: "Right answer to a difficult question."

As mentioned, Gerrard's Villa face Brighton at Villa Park on Saturday ahead of returning to Liverpool a few weeks later.
