Barcelona have released Mike van Beijnen, son of Ali Dursun, the agent who helped Frenkie De Jong secure a £65 million dream move to the Nou Camp in the summer.

The 20-year-old defender, who played with De Jong during his days at Willem II, was snapped up on a free and had an £89 million release clause placed in the two-year contract he signed.

Prior to the surprise transfer to Barcelona, he had also played for PSV Eindhoven and NAC Breda, most recently with the club's reserve side.

But six months into the move and the Dutchman has departed after failing to play a single minute for Barca B. As per MARCA, he was included in the matchday squad on eight different occasions but never got as far as making his way onto the pitch in Blaugrana colours.

It's now been confirmed that Van Beijnen has signed for Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirligi, where he will be hoping to play much more regularly.

The signing of Beijnen alongside De Jong was a strange one, but at least the former Ajax man has been well worth the money. - with the 22-year old seamlessly settling in with a series of classy displays in midfield.

These type of arrangements are not an anomaly in football, however.

Part of the deal that saw Nabil Fekir move from Lyon to Real Betis in the summer was that his brother Yassin also made the move, while AC Milan managed to tie goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to a new contract after signing his brother Antonio on af ree.
