Manchester United and Chelsea have been put on red alert as Barcelona reportedly named their price for Frenkie de Jong.

Dutchman De Jong joined the Catalan club from Eredivisie side Ajax in a deal worth a reported €75 million back in 2019.

The midfielder has since become a key player for Barcelona, making 206 appearances across all competitions, scoring 16 goals. He has also lifted the La Liga, Copa de Rey and the Supercopa de Espana.

In 2022, De Jong was heavily linked with a move to United, with the Old Trafford club reportedly making a £70 million bid for the player.

However, the 26-year-old rejected a move to Manchester and opted to stay with Barcelona.

After failing to sign De Jong, United ended up splashing £60 million to bring Brazilian star Casemiro to Old Trafford from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Looking ahead to this summer’s transfer window, De Jong’s future has been thrown up into the air again.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have placed a £85 million price tag on De Jong.

Speaking about his future with Dutch media outlet NOS, De Jong refused to rule out a move away. He said, as per the Daily Mail: “Possibly. But I'm very satisfied at Barca. It's always difficult to say. For now I feel good here.

“I am in the club where I always wanted to be, where I dreamed.”

On the back of the latest developments, United and Chelsea could both reignite their interest in De Jong and attempt to lure the midfielder to the Premier League once again.

Apart from United and Chelsea, it is believed that French side Paris Saint Germain are also keeping tabs on De Jong’s situation.

Barcelona will be back in La Liga action this weekend when they take on relegation-threatened Celta Vigo on Saturday afternoon.
