Despite winning the Premier League last season in one of the biggest triumphs in football, heck in sporting history, Leicester City sacked Claudio Ranieri last night.

The Foxes have struggled to gain any sort of momentum this season, and even though they still harbour aspirations in the Champions League, Leicester ruthlessly fired the Italian from his post.

(Here's one of Ranieri's many fine moments - dilly dong!)

Nine months ago, Raneiri was celebrating Leicester's first Premier League trophy. How things have changed.

But a day removed from the helm, Ranieri is reportedly eyeing up another route into management. With the burning passion to continue plying his trade in Europe's top leagues, he could return to a former club.

The 65-year-old still harbours a desire to manage Fiorentina, according to The Sun. The Serie A outfit are languishing in 9th in the league not to mention crashing out of Europe after being beaten by Borussia Mönchengladbach.

(Fiorentina may have a vacancy if the ex-Prem boss leaves in the summer.)

That's despite taking a 1-goal lead into the second leg while bagging a crucial away goal. Though they screwed up their return leg in Florence, the German's scored 4 goals en route to winning 4-2 on the night.

As a result of failing to progress into the last 16 as well as their league position, needless to say, their current boss Paulo Sousa is under mounting pressure from the board.

But the former QPR, Leicester and Swansea boss is subject to interest from Italian giants Juventus who are keeping tabs on a number of managers in case Max Allegri leave Turin, with Arsenal heavily mentioned.

Ranieri enjoyed four years at Fiorentina before moving to Spain to take roles with both Valenica and Atletico Madrid. He helped the club win promotion to the top flight, and won his first major trophies; Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup with them.

Will Ranieri return to his old stomping ground? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
