Speaking off the back of Mo Salah’s contract extension, Darren Bent has delivered his verdict on the player’s future performance as he enters the twilight years of his career.

Bent, who scored 106 Premier League goals for the likes of Sunderland, Aston Villa, and Spurs, believes there is “no way” Mo Salah is past his prime.

Delivering his opinions on Talk Sport, Bent said he thinks Salah will “score over 20 goals again” for Liverpool across the 2022/23 season.

The Egyptian has scored less than 20 goals in the Premier League just once since his 2017 move to Anfield.

However, the final months of the 2021/22 were some of his least prolific as a Liverpool player.

The winger bagged just 4 goals within his final 10 Premier League appearances last term.

He also missed a number of glorious chances in the Champions League final as Liverpool fell short of tournament victory through a disappointing 1-0 loss against Real Madrid.

However, mitigating factors did impact his ability to perform at the peak of his powers.

After a brilliant first few months of 21/22 campaign with his, Salah joined up with the Egyptian national team at the Africa Cup of Nations.

After returning from the heartbreak of final loss at the hands of Sadio Mané’s Senegal, Salah never looked the same.

Salah’s gruelling schedule over the course of the first half of the season clearly began to take its toll upon his body, hence the drop in performance.

The 30-year-old will be hoping a solid few months of rest will help him return to Liverpool ahead of the new season at his very best.

Bent’s prediction could thus very well turn into a reality for Salah.

Off the back of signing him on to a new deal worth £350,000 a week, Liverpool will be burgeoning with hope that the star can continue his remarkable record on Merseyside next term.
