A former MLS star and CBS Sports commentator has hit out at Arne Slot's Liverpool legacy after Mohamed Salah’s brutal Instagram post revealed a club in freefall.
Mohamed Salah seemingly dug out Arne Slot in an Instagram post yesterday that claimed the standards and quality of football are plummeting at Liverpool.
The Reds legend, their highest ever Premier League goalscorer, called for a return to the heavy metal attacking football that he once knew under Jurgen Klopp, no longer present within this current Liverpool side.
The Egyptian King also called for everyone who joins and has joined Liverpool to be more aware of the expectations placed upon them, surmising the club’s current form as unacceptable.

A former MLS star and CBS Sports Golazo commentator has now taken aim at Slot — not just for his failures this season, but the mitigating circumstances that saw him win a Premier League title last season.
Liverpool lifted the 2024/25 Premier League after accumulating 84 points in Slot’s first season, but the Dutchman’s efforts were far from the most vital in their league victory.
Michael Lahoud hits out at Arne Slot’s role in Premier League victory
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Michael Lahoud, former MLS star, slammed Arne Slot’s role in Liverpool’s first title lift in front of fans in 35 years.
“Arne Slot, I’m going to be fully honest about this, would not be a Premier League champion had it not been for Mohamed Salah. [Salah] put Liverpool on his back last season and won them that Premier League title,” said Lahoud.
“[Salah] wrote Arne Slot’s name into the history books… The most damning thing that I see [Salah] saying, is that it’s [Slot’s] job to come into Liverpool and adapt to this standard that’s been kept up long before [Slot] got here,” he continued.
Mohamed Salah performed at possibly the highest ever level in Premier League history last season, certainly the highest ever level output-wise, tallying a record-breaking 47 goal contributions in 38 Premier League games.
The Egyptian King became the first player in Premier League history to win the Golden Boot, Playmaker Award and PFA Players’ Player of the Year in the same season during his 2021/22 campaign, then won all three again and the Premier League title last year.
No player has ever carried more weight in a single Premier League season, having won the most points for his side of any player in an individual campaign in English top-flight history.
Lahoud defends Salah's December antics
Lahoud, a National Championship winner and former MLS player with 121 caps, also defended Salah’s words from back in December, when he first hit out at Slot.
“He broke at the seams before he went to AFCON. The frustration was just getting to another level that I’ve never seen from Mohamed Salah,” said the former MLS star.
“He said, ‘Put some respect on my name’ [in December]... he’s a living legend. He’ll have a statue built for him, given what he’s done for the club,” he continued.
The 39-year-old concluded with a damning verdict regarding the Dutchman’s future at Liverpool, believing that Salah’s Instagram post was directed at Slot, not Liverpool’s superstar signings made in the summer.
The ex-MLS player said: “There’s a massive disconnect between [Slot] and Liverpool fans. You hear the boos, not once, not twice, not thrice, four times. We’re on the cusp of seeing Slot out.
Arne Slot will manage Liverpool for the last time this season against Brentford next Sunday, where departing legend Mohamed Salah will make his final Anfield appearance.
