Mauricio Pochettino has been praised for his 'mentality, ambition and confidence' during an impressive first press conference as Chelsea boss.

The 51-year-old former Spurs and Paris Saint-Germain manager will be hoping to improve on last season's abysmal campaign with a positive start to life in West London.

So far, the Argentine has impressed supporters. Earlier this week, he blew people away with his 'aura' and 'presence' as he arrived at Cobham training ground.

And now, Pochettino has been commended for his first Chelsea press conference, where he spoke about a wide range of topics, including their clash against Liverpool on the opening day.

"In football there is no patience. It is difficult to wait," he said. "You need to deliver from day one. That is why we are how we are. It is about the delivery from now. We cannot tell people we need six months. We need belief from the beginning."

He added: "We need to be ready to beat Liverpool."

Pochettino, who penned a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge in May, also spoke about the much-debated size of Chelsea's squad.

"When I was outside I was hearing people giving opinions about the squad being too big. For me it's a fresh start with other players and the ones that will come," he said.

'"I don't think too much on that. There are always people in and people out. The squad was big last season and it's normal to reduce it but for me it's not a big issue."

Another snippet from his press conference that brought plenty of praise from fans was his comments about winning "from day one".

He said: "My target is to win, my aim is to win. Play well is our style, philosophy and culture. If you don't win in a club like Chelsea, you will struggle.

"With the players we have and the strategy to believe. It's about winning, being competitive. And translate this energy to our fans. To create the togetherness, it's a difficult, in the Premier League all together we can be close to win again."

Here's how social media reacted to Pochettino's first press conference as Chelsea manager.

Chelsea fan account Pys said: "Think the fact that Mauricio Pochettino has got Chelsea fans excited for pre season says a lot, tough to fill yourself with optimism after the horror show last season.

"In the two times we’ve heard from him, he’s been very impressive, confident in his abilities and is embodying the culture of Chelsea into his work already.

"As long as we’re competitive and making progress, especially with player development, no Chelsea fan will mind."

Another fan wrote: "Great first press conference from Mauricio Pochettino; he said all the correct things, in my opinion. As I said before, what happens on the field is most important, but to sit in our dugout, you have to have something about you, and Poch does."

A third commented: "His confidence is out of the world and I think that’s what [Graham] Potter lacked, like Sterling said in that interview we need someone who has superiority and a final say. I believe this season apart from building the squad we might challenge for something."

A fourth added: "How did Pochettino last so long at Tottenham with a mentality this good?"
