Fans are all saying the same thing about Mason Mount's performance against Man City

Fans are all saying the same thing about Mason Mount's performance against Man City

Mason Mount failed to influence the game as Chelsea lost to Manchester City.

Mason Mount has been slammed by fans online following his showing for Chelsea against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Mount started in midfield, but failed to influence the game as Chelsea suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat at the Etihad on Sunday.

Riyad Mahrez (x2), Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden all got on the score-sheet as Pep Guardiola's team book their spot in the next round of the competition.

As for Graham Potter, he goes back to the drawing board following back-to-back defeats to Man City, having endured a 1-0 defeat in the Premier League on Thursday.

And it was Mount's showing that angered Chelsea fans on social media as they took aim at him while questioning his contract demands.

One Twitter user wrote: "Mason Mount is asking for £300k per week?? The audacity. Don’t make me laugh."

A second tweeted: "The day we sell this guy I'll cry tears of joy."

A third added: "And Boehly wants to renew his contract."

A fourth said: "Mason Mount wouldn’t even get into the Nottingham Forest team."

Another commented: "Mason Mount is bang average nothing special at all."

The 23-year-old has just 18 months left on his current contract, with the player holding out for a whopping £300,000-a-week deal.

But former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson isn't convinced he deserves a contract that big.

"I don’t think he’s [Mount] got to the level to demand £300,000-a-week," he said. "Obviously he’s a good player and Chelsea won’t want to lose him but you can’t be held hostage to anyone.

"I can’t imagine he’s the sort of lad that would down tools if he doesn’t get £300,000-a-week.

"He doesn’t seem like that sort of fella. I don’t believe that’s true, so I think they’ll come to an arrangement eventually."

Chelsea, who currently occupy 10th place in the league table, resume their campaign next Thursday when they take on Fulham.
