Mason Mount's farewell message to Chelsea fans ahead of his move to Manchester United has been compared to a video posted by another academy product.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek ended his 19-year association with Chelsea last week, when he joined Serie A side AC Milan on a four-year deal worth €4 million [£3.4m] per-season.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who made 155 appearances for the Blues, will join up with former teammate Fikayo Tomori at the San Siro.

After winning two Premier League titles, the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup with his boyhood club, the midfielder posted an emotional three-minute video to show his appreciation to Chelsea.

Days later and Mason Mount said goodbye to Chelsea in a short video message on Instagram.

"Hi Chelsea fans. Given the speculation over the last six months, this may not come as a surprise to you but it doesn't make it any easier to tell you that I've made a decision to leave Chelsea," he began.

"You deserved more than a written statement..."

After Mount uploaded his farewell video ahead of his reported £60 million move to Manchester United, many Chelsea fans compared the two announcement videos.

One supporter commented on Loftus-Cheek's video, saying: "This is how you say goodbye. Thank you," while another wrote: "Now compare this to Mount’s video."

A third said: "I’m not on the bandwagon of 'screw Mason mount the snake' but this is how you do a farewell video for a team you’ve been at since youth."

A fourth added: "Coming back to this after that Mount video. Shows the stark difference in mentality and maturity. I understand if things didn't go well in negotiations for Mount but it's truly a slap on the face for the fans who actually supported him (and still do) despite everything. Shame."

A fifth wrote: "It’s emotional seeing these homegrown players leave tho, Cheek especially considering the potential he had and his dream of becoming a club legend got shattered by some pointless friendly game."

I didn’t expect to feel more from Loftus-Cheek’s farewell than Mount’s 😂 see ya 👋🏼

A day after he posted a goodbye message, Mount spoke for the first time after his transfer to United was confirmed.

"It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career," he said.

"Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I'm joining, and I can't wait to be part of this group's drive to win major trophies.

"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here."
