Manchester United have been given hope in their pursuit of Victor Osimhen following comments by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

United have identified Osimhen as a potential long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane also a target of the Old Trafford club.

Osimhen, 24, has scored 48 goals in 86 games for Napoli since joining the Italian from Lille in 2020.

He has been particularly prolific this season, scoring 20 times in 24 games for Napoli.

His goals have helped Luciano Spalletti's side to the top of Serie A, where they are 15 points clear of closest rivals Inter Milan.

ESPN claim that Napoli are demanding at least €100m (£89.7m) for the striker in the summer market.

Napoli president gives Man Utd hope

Asked about Osimhen's future and that of his teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli president De Laurentiis confirmed the club could be willing to sell – under the right circumstances.

"I am very good at making contracts, so when they come to me, they are blocked, so keeping them here won't be difficult," he told TNT Sports.

"However, never say never. Sometimes there are offers you can't refuse, so you never know. To me, we'll see them shine for a long time."

Osimhen himself recently left the door open for a move to Old Trafford this summer.

"When you are doing so well, top clubs around the world are watching, mostly in the top five leagues," he told ESPN.

"And to be able to attract interest from these top clubs shows that I am doing great and it gives me the motivation to do even more for myself and my team.

"But I am focused on Napoli right now and they have the final say. I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies.

"At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me. It is for the club to decide."

United could face competition for Osimhen's signature, however, with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid also keen to sign the Nigeria international.

Il Mattino, as reported by Get Italian Football News, claim Atletico are plotting a potential move for Osimhen this summer.

It is claimed that De Laurentiis could be willing to sell if "an indispensable offer were to arrive".
