"The word is that..." - Respected journalist drops huge Man Utd takeover news that will delight supporters

It's good news for Man Utd fans.

The Glazers fully intend to sell Manchester United provided they receive a suitable offer, according to a fresh report.

In November the Americans claimed they were seeking “strategic alternatives” for the Old Trafford club, which could result in an outright sale.

And three months later Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani both submitted bids for the Premier League giants.

While both initial approaches were below the Glazers' £6billion asking price, Sheikh Jassim is reportedly now “willing to overpay” for the club and will make a second bid next week.

According to Sky Sports, Sheikh Jassim is consulting with his bankers and advisers to put together a compelling offer following constructive meeting with the club on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ratcliffe will also allegedly make a second bid for United having visited the club on Friday.

While the race to take over United is in full swing, there is still speculation the Glazers would prefer minority investment in the club, rather than a full sale.

Glazers want to cash in

Despite speculation, the Glazers would prefer minority investment, The Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan has claimed the controversial Americans are ready to cash in.

Indeed, following two weeks of visits from interested parties, the club owners are allegedly keen to relinquish their assets, should the price be right.

And this week will be key in the takeover process, with the Glazers set to receive their first “serious bids” for the club.

A US insider told Sky Sports: "All the numbers people from the bidders will be working out the real value of the club over the next few days.

“They will be making second bids. The reality is their first bids were just indicative.

"In this process, the second bids next week are really the first serious bids."
