Man Utd handed Raphael Varane boost but suffer Marcus Rashford blow ahead of Wolves clash

Man Utd handed Raphael Varane boost but suffer Marcus Rashford blow ahead of Wolves clash

This is bad news for Red Devils supporters.

Raphael Varane could return against Wolves on the weekend, but Marcus Rashford is a major doubt for the contest, Erik ten Hag has revealed.

Varane has been sidelined for the last four weeks after picking up an ankle injury during United's Europa League draw with Sevilla.

The Frenchman has been a rock at the back this season alongside Lisandro Martinez, and in a major boost for supporters, Ten Hag has confirmed he is back fit and available to play against Wolves.

However, Rashford, who has enjoyed his best ever scoring season at the club, looks set to miss out through injury.

"Raphael Varane is back and Rashford is doubtful," the United boss said in his pre-match press conference.

"He has a problem, an injury on his leg. He's a big question mark for tomorrow but happy Rapha Varane is back.

"As I say, [Rashford is] doubtful, more than doubtful, so a big question mark. We have players who can score goals and they have the opportunity now to show it.

"Varane is experienced, knows how to win and will lead how to win. He will guide us."

The Red Devils boss also provided an update on Alejandro Garnacho, revealing he is available after picking up an ankle injury against Southampton in March.

"Alejandro Garnacho has one more week training, definitely, so he is available" Ten Hag added. "We have seen he can bring something extra in the team."

Two consecutive 1-0 league defeats in a row against Brighton and West Ham has cast doubt over United's Champions League hopes.

They remain fourth in the table, with Liverpool breathing down their necks in fifth, though United crucially have a game in hand over Jurgen Klopp's men.

Ten Hag will know three points are a must against Wolves, as the Dutchman looks to steer his side back to winning ways.
