Manchester United are reportedly targeting a deal to bring AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori to the club.

According to transfer specialist Di Marzio via Corriere della Sera, the Premier League side are interested in Tomori after his impressive performances helped Milan win the Serie A title last season and the club are now thinking about whether to move for the defender.

However, the report also stated that the Italian champions are looking to extend the centre back’s contract. His current deal expires in 2025 and the San Siro club wants to tie him down to 2027.

Since joining from Chelsea in a deal worth £26 million back in 2021, Tomori has established himself as one of the best defenders in Italian football as he secured a regular place in the heart of the Milan defence. In the 21/22 season, he managed to rack up 40 appearances across all competitions.

United are said to be in the market for a new central defender after they endured a torrid 21/22, in which their central defensive options of Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof were often criticised for their error prone performances.

And now, with new boss Erik ten Hag at the helm, the Dutchman is looking to add more much needed quality and stability into his defence.

Ajax centre back, Lisandro Martinez is said to be Ten Hag’s first choice after the pair worked together during their time in Amsterdam. However, a deal is not yet agreed and with the season fast approaching, the United boss may have to move on to other targets.

Tomori though may be out of the reach as Di Marzio reported that the England international is not looking to leave the Rossoneri after tasting success last season with the club.

Furthermore, Milan already parted ways with Alessio Romagnoli after his contract expired earlier this month.

Away from the defence, Ten Hag will also be looking to bring in reinforcements in other areas. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is thought to be the manager’s top target but there is still no agreement between the involved parties.

United are also interested in Ajax winger Antony, with discussions ongoing between the Red Devils and the Dutch champions.

Meanwhile, United have landed in Bangkok for the first leg of their pre season tour. Their first match of the tour will be on 12 July against arch rivals, Liverpool.
