Dimitar Berbatov has urged Napoli’s Victor Osimhen to sign for Manchester United over the likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Osimhen has become the envy of Europe’s elite clubs after a blockbuster season in which the 24-year-old netted 25 Serie A goals as Napoli claimed their first Scudetto in 33 years.

Chelsea, Arsenal, United, Liverpool, PSG and Real Madrid are just a selection of the teams linked with the striker in recent weeks.

And Italian football expert James Horncastle told the BBC that Osimhen could cost his potential suitors up to £130million.

Nevertheless, Berbatov insisted that Osimhen must make a move to United should the Old Trafford club have the funds to sign the forward.

Berbatov on Osimhen future

Former United and Tottenham striker Berbatov told SPORTbible that Osimhen “should go” to United should a move be possible.

Osimhen is reportedly of genuine interest to United, with the club having also cited Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani as alternatives.

And on the prospect of Osimhen signing, Berbatov, speaking on behalf of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, said: “I think he should go! If United can find the funds to go for him then he should go.

“That striker is unbelievable in the way he scores in open play, his runs and the way he finds space, especially inside the penalty box.

“So in my opinion, if United need a striker and I think they need the striker they need to go for him.”

Berbatov added that United were more likely to sign Osimhen than Kane this summer, given the latter will be unwilling to tarnish his legacy at Tottenham.

The two-time Premier League winner said: “Well, going a couple of seasons back Harry Kane was the obvious choice.

“You know, he's still there as someone being linked to United and probably will be all summer long. We're going to watch another soap opera, probably.

“But I think he's gonna stay at Spurs because his legacy there now is too big. His legacy is enormous. He is their leading goalscorer and when you say sports, the first thing that comes to mind is Harry Kane.

“So I think I don't think he wants to tarnish that legacy. He's going to stay there in my opinion.”
