Man Utd youngster Martin Svidersky is yet to play a single minute for new club after Erik ten Hag snub

He is yet to play a single minute.

Former Manchester United youngster Martin Svidersky has yet to make his debut for Almeria - a year after snubbing Erik ten Hag’s contract proposal.

Last summer Svidersky was listed as the only United academy player whose contract was due to expire to be offered a new deal.

However, the Slovakian decided not to prolong his stay at Old Trafford and instead sought first-team opportunities elsewhere.

Svidersky followed in the footsteps of Largie Ramazani and Arnau Puigmal in swapping United for a Spanish club, signing a five-year deal at Almeria last summer.

However, the 20-year-old is yet to have broken into the Andalusian side – who narrowly avoided relegation to the second tier of Spanish football last term.

While he is yet to play for the senior team, Svidersky has featured for Almeria’s B team this season, who play in Spanish football’s regionalised fifth tier.

Svidersky featured ten times for Almeria’s B side, scoring no goals and receiving a red card on his debut against El Palo.

Svidersky Man Utd career

Svidersky, a defensive midfielder, was often compared to five-time Premier League winner Michael Carrick while rising through the ranks at Old Trafford.

United beat competition from Chelsea and Liverpool to sign Svidersky back in 2018, while the then-teenager also had trials at Manchester City, West Ham and Celtic.

However, three weeks before completing his move to Old Trafford he tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus and required surgery. The injury would keep him out of the game for an entire year.

Svidersky went on to make his debut with United’s Under-23 side in September 2020, during an EFL trophy draw against Rochdale.

Meanwhile, that season saw the player named as the club’s Scholar of the Year for the Under-18 category.

United did their best to keep Svidersky - offering him a new and improved contract.

However, the Old Trafford club did manage to gain a small compensation package for the Slovakia U21 international in recognition of the three years he spent in Manchester for his development.

Of course, things have not quite gone to plan for the player since. Having spent time in three different youth systems in his native Slovakia before his 2018 switch to United, Svidersky may make another move this summer in pursuit of first-team football.
