Man United Fans Brutally Slammed For Pelting Diego Simeone With Missiles And Told They Should Be 'Ashamed' And 'Banned'

Man United Fans Brutally Slammed For Pelting Diego Simeone With Missiles And Told They Should Be 'Ashamed' And 'Banned'

Speaking after Man United's defeat to Atletico Madrid, Jamie O’Hara called for "harsher punishments" on fans who lash out at matches.

Manchester United fans should be “ashamed” of themselves after targeting Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone with missiles while he ran down the Old Trafford tunnel.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara, who believes fans should be “banned” for such actions and called it “unacceptable” behaviour.

Renan Lodi’s first-half header against United at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening ensured Atletico a 1-0 win in the second-leg Champions League last-16 tie.

Simeone was spotted running towards the tunnel as soon as the full-time whistle was blown, but the Atletico boss received a rough reception from United fans.

United fans were seen aiming and throwing different projectiles at the 51-year-old Argentine before Simeone vanished down the Old Trafford tunnel.

O’Hara, 35, unleashed a furious rant against the behaviour of United fans and said he was “sick of seeing” supporters throw projectiles at players and managers.

The ex-Tottenham player also slammed the conduct of fans since returning to stadiums after coronavirus restrictions were eased, with O’Hara calling for “harsher punishments.”

“Manchester United fans, some of you should be ashamed of yourselves throwing things at the manager as he’s trying to run down the tunnel,” he told talkSPORT.

“Unacceptable, you should be banned and more needs to be done with this because I’m sick of seeing it.

“Since we’ve come back from COVID with fans back in the ground, I don’t know why all of a sudden that fans think they can throw things at players, at managers.

“It’s not good enough, it’s not acceptable and it’s got to stop. There needs to be harsher punishments because I’m seeing it way too much.”

Speaking after the match, Simeone claimed he was unaware that United fans had lobbed missiles at him and insisted that he ran because he was “happy.”

When asked if he knew furious fans had thrown projectiles at him, he responded: “No, when I came off the pitch, I ran because I was happy and I like to enjoy it in the dressing room.

“So I don’t know what happened. What you just said, all I was thinking about was getting into the changing room to the dressing room, and I was really happy.”
