A Liverpool fan who clashed with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone during Wednesday night's eventful Champions League group stage match has broken his silence.
Moments after Virgil van Dijk scored a 92nd-minute goal to put Liverpool 3-2 up, a furious Simeone had to be held back by stewards following an altercation.
The Argentine could be seen shouting and gesturing towards a member of the crowd in the immediate aftermath of Van Dijk's eventual winner, with his coaching staff also getting involved in the chaotic scenes.
Simeone explained in his post-match comments that he had been “insulted for 90 minutes" by fans. "They always talk about care, about respect, but they insult you from the crowd all game," he said.

"I can't say anything back because I'm the coach," added Simeone. "My reaction is not justifiable. But after 90 minutes of insults it's not easy."

After being pushed away by stewards, Simeone was given a red card by referee Maurizio Mariani, meaning he will be banned from the touchline and technical area for Atletico's second matchday against Eintracht Frankfurt.

And in the early hours of Thursday morning, the fan in question reposted the clip alongside a comment that read: "Do I get the assist?"
He also called out Simeone's official page, mentioning him in a post which included a GIF of The Office character David Brent and his trademark catchphrase: "Ooh, you're hard."
Simeone was asked about the nature of the insults after Wednesday's final whistle.

"The referee told me he understood the situation," he said. "I hope Liverpool can improve on this part and that when they identify the person responsible, they are punished.”
Asked about the insults, Simeone replied: "Insults all game long. And gestures too. You don't know what it's like. But I am the one who has to stay calm, and I have to put up with the gestures, the insults, in any situation.
"Why? Because I'm in a position where I have to put up with it."
Simeone added: “I’m not really going to get into the exact nature of the insults. I don’t want to get involved in that. I don’t want to get into that discussion. I’ve got to stay in my place. I know what went on behind the manager’s bench."

After taking an early lead through Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool let a two-goal lead slip as Atletico's Marcos Llorente bagged a second-half brace.

But like they have on numerous occasions this season, Arne Slot's side snatched a late winner as they kickstarted their Champions League campaign in dramatic fashion.
