Phil Foden ‘reaches agreement in principle’ on new massive Manchester City contract

Phil Foden ‘reaches agreement in principle’ on new massive Manchester City contract

The England man has been a key figure for City in recent years.

It has been reported that Manchester City and Phil Foden have reached an agreement over a new deal that will see the player receive a massive pay rise.

According to Football Insider, City are set to increase Foden’s salary multiple times as the two parties edge closer to putting pens to paper to finalise a deal worth around £250,000 a week.

The new deal will see the 22-year-old midfielder join the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne to become one of the club’s highest paid players.

It has also been reported that the length of Foden’s new deal will be six years. Which means that he will bank a whopping total of £78 million by the time the new contract comes to an end.

The report stated that an agreement between the club and the player was reached a while ago but City have been putting off the official announcement. All parties are confident that there will be no issues that will prevent the deal from being finalised.

Foden has been with City at a young age as he came through the club’s academy. Ever since he burst into the first team he has not looked back.

The England international is now one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola’s plans.

So far this season, Foden has started all seven of City’s fixtures in the Premier League.

In all competitions, the midfielder has 10 appearances and has scored three times whilst assisting twice.

To date, Foden has made a total of 179 appearances for the club, with 48 goals and 35 assists to his name.

Guardiola spoke about Foden’s start to the season last month.

He said after City's 4-0 win over Sevilla in the Champions League: “Phil has an incredible thing.

“Lately he is not playing so good like normal but he always does a job and run and fight and he's stable for the team. I'm pretty sure today the goal and assist he has done will help him.

“Phil's position is dynamic and [so is] his work ethic. We have to learn a lot. You can play badly because you are human but you never, never, never can avoid doing what Phil does every single game and that's why he deserves to play.”

City are back in Premier League action this weekend as they welcome neighbours Manchester United to the Etihad in what is a much anticipated derby on Sunday afternoon.
