Premier League forced to ‘correct multiple errors relating to their charges against Man City’

The Premier League charged Manchester City over alleged financial breaches

The Premier League have been forced to amend multiple mistakes regarding their charges against Manchester City.

On Monday, the Premier League announced that the reigning champions have been charged with over 100 breaches of their financial regulations.

However, on Wednesday, six of the charges were changed.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the original charge document alleged City of breaking rules E.3, E.4, E.11 and E.12 in the 11/12 campaign.

However, they are related to inconsequential rules like Premier League weekend matches that are not televised will be played on Saturday and games will be played on New Year’s Day unless it falls on a Sunday’ or that all clubs must enter the FA Cup.

It has been reported that the mistake by the Premier League was that it was not until the 12/13 season that those rules moved into Section E.

There was also a similar mistake in relation to the 21/22 campaign, City’s alleged breaches of W.15 and W.16 were changed to W.12 and W.13.

After the charges were made public, City released a statement which said: “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

“The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”

Whilst manager Pep Guardiola said: “This happened with UEFA, it is the same. The same articles, the same accusations. We will defend ourselves like what happened in the UEFA situation. The court will dictate what happens.

“I am fully convinced that we will be innocent. Since Abu Dhabi took over the club, it has been like that since day one.”

City are back in Premier League action on Sunday afternoon as they take on Aston Villa.
