Man City prepared to 'pay world record fee' to sign Premier League star

Manchester City are looking to capitalise on the star's unproductive contract talks and bring him to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Manchester City are willing to pay a world record fee to land one of their top targets this summer, reports claim.

After an influx of arrivals in the summer, City further strengthened their squad in the January window by bringing in Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace respectively.

The pair have added extra quality to Pep Guardiola's side and helped bring them closer to Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

But it appears as though City are looking to continue shopping in the Premier League and are continuing to push to sign Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento.

According to Graeme Bailey of TEAMTalk, City have been courting Livramento since last summer after being impressed by his displays for the. Magpies.

With his pace and energy, they believe he could be the long-term replacement for Kyle Walker.

Matheus Nunes has transformed into an excellent right-back at City and made the position his own. However Livramento is considered a significant upgrade and can also play at left-back, where Nico O'Reilly had been deputising until Rayan Ait-Nouri found his feet.

City are prepared to pay a record-breaking sum to land Livramento, with Newcastle determined to hold out for £70 million if they are unable to tie him down a new contract.

The former Chelsea and Southampton player's current deal runs until 2028.

City paid £50 million to sign Walker in 2017 and paid a British-record £57 million to acquire Joao Cancelo from Juventus in 2019.

The world-record fee paid for a full-back is Achraf Hakimi's £60 million switch from Inter Milan to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

City's potential Livramento deal is likely to eclipse that and follow on from breaking the world record fee for a centre-back when they signed Josko Gvardiol in 2023.

Livramento has played three times for England, making his debut in a 5–0 victory against the Republic of Ireland in November 2024.

City in pole position to sign second England star

The report also goes on to note that City are hopeful of winning the race for another England star in Elliot Anderson.

A former teammate of Livramento's at Newcastle, Anderson has been earning rave reviews for his performances at Nottingham Forest and is now a starter under Thomas Tuchel for England.

Anderson is admired by a plethora of clubs, including Manchester United. And though he is expected to cost a hefty sum, City are said to believe they are best-placed to secure his signature this summer.
