Erling Haaland absolutely destroyed Dayot Upamecano to give Manchester City the lead against Bayern Munich.

City arrived at the Allianz Arena with a healthy lead after goals from Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Haaland sealed a 3-0 win last week at the Etihad Stadium.

On Wednesday night, Bayern started the better side as former City player Leroy Sane had a huge chance to make it 1-0 in the 16th minute after he was played through by Jamal Musiala, but the German winger placed his shot wide of Ederson's goal.

City then began to assert themselves in the match and were given a chance to score after Upamecano was adjudged to have handled a shot by Ilkay Gundogan.

However, Haaland failed to convert from the spot as his penalty went flying over Yann Sommer’s crossbar.

In the second half, Bayern stepped brightly again as they continued their search for the opening goal.

But they were hit on the counter attack as Kevin De Bruyne played a perfect pass for Haaland, who sat Upamecano down before smashing the ball into the back of the net.

City finally got the goal they wanted as they now lead Bayern 4-0 on aggregate.

Fans were quick to react to the goal on social media.

One said: “Erling Haaland breaking Upamecano’s ankles before his goal…”

Another tweeted: “HAALAND SAT UPAMECANO DOWN.”

A third fan added: “Upamecano got scared when he saw Haaland running at him. If you haven't played football before you wouldn't know how it feels.”

Someone else wrote: “Haaland has actually treated Upamecano like Shane Duffy tonight.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Upamecano's going to hear Haaland's footsteps in his nightmares for weeks.”

The goal against Bayern was Haaland's 48th goal in all competitions during what has been a stunning first season at City for the Norway superstar.

Can Haaland inspire City to their first Champions League title this season? Only time will tell.
