Former Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder revealed why he once snubbed a move to Liverpool.
Sneijder was one of the great footballers of his era. He was instrumental in the Netherlands' run to the 2010 World Cup final, named the tournament's second-best player and awarded the Silver Ball behind Uruguay's Diego Forlan.
The Dutchman was also central to an Inter Milan side that claimed a historic treble in 2009-10, while he won a La Liga title with Real Madrid.

Indeed throughout his star-studded career, the midfielder was linked with moves to the Premier League, in particular with Manchester United.
In 2013, when his career started to decline due to persistent knee problems, Sneijder was given the chance to sign for Liverpool. The midfielder snubbed them however, instead opting to leave Italy and move to Turkey with Galatasaray.

While discussing Cody Gakpo’s move to Liverpool, Sneijder reflected on his own decision to snub the Merseyside club 10 years ago.

Speaking on Dutch TV programme Veronica Offside, via Ajansspor: "I once had a situation to transfer to Liverpool or Galatasaray.
“I chose Galatasaray at that moment because I wanted to win more trophies and Liverpool was going through a difficult time at that time.
“I chose trophies because those are the best thing a football player would want to win.
“I also wanted to be free at Christmas and New Year's. It was a choice I made consciously.”

However, Sneijder's prolific run of silverware did not end at Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
He moved to Galatasaray in 2013, where he picked up eight trophies in four years before moving to French club Nice and finally Qatar.
