Switzerland player speaks out after national team loses 7-1 to U15 boys side days before Women's Euros

Alisha Lehmann's side were dismantled by FC Luzern's Under-15 team just days before the Women's Euros gets under in Switzerland.

A Switzerland side featuring Alisha Lehmann lost 7-1 to FC Luzern’s Under-15 team ahead of the Women’s Euros and a player has finally spoken out following the defeat.

According to reports, Switzerland’s women’s team were embarrassed by FC Luzern’s Under-15 side just days before the country plays host to the 2025 Women’s Euros, which is set to get underway on July 2.

The Swiss will face Finland, Norway, and Iceland in the group stage of the tournament.

On June 24, Swiss outlet Blick claimed that the 7-1 defeat was broadcast to TikTok before being swiftly deleted after garnering around 70,000 views.

The outlet reported that the match saw the side use 28 players, with their third-choice goalkeeper actually playing for Luzern in one half.

Also, four players were not included in the squad, including captain and Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti.

Meanwhile, Lehmann, 26, who currently represents Juventus at club level, is part of the Euro 2025 squad but is unlikely to play a major role.

The 26-year-old posted to Instagram after the match, writing: "Work work work."

Switzerland’s Leila Wandeler, who plays for Lyon and has represented her country at Under-19 level on three occasions, has since spoken out.

As reported by Aargauer Zeitung, Wandeler said: “The training sessions are exhausting. But we all want to be in our best shape for this European Championship. That's why I think it's a good thing."

When referencing the recent loss, she added: "The result didn't matter. For us, it was about testing our game principles."

Switzerland are winless in their last eight matches, and were recently relegated from the top division in the Nations League.

Concerns surrounding experienced stars Walti and Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic’s fitness remain heading into the Euros, while there appears to be a lack of experience in defence with Spurs’ Luana Bühler, Juve’s Viola Calligaris, and Eintracht Frankfurt Nadine Riesen having featured sporadically during the second half of the season.

Even the goalkeeping situation is unclear, with usual number one Elvira Herzog, and Livia Peng both making high-profile mistakes in recent months.

However, 18-year-old Barcelona star Sydney Schertenleib has been described as the “diamond” of a talented group of young players coming through the ranks at the moment.
