Pundit claims key Arsenal transfer target 'would be interested' in joining Liverpool - could replace Thiago

Arsenal transfer target Youri Tielemans, who plays for Leicester City, might be interested in joining Liverpool, pundit claims

Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans has been consistently linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, but the Belgian would be interested in a move to Liverpool instead, according to Kevin Campbell.

Campbell was speaking to Football Insider following the injury to Thiago, who has now been ruled out for six weeks.

“I’m sure Tielemans would be interested in a move to Liverpool."

“When you look at Thiago, his game and what he brings to Liverpool, Tielemans could go someway to replacing that. Thiago brings craft to that Liverpool midfield. Tielemans brings that as well.

“He could also add goals to that side. He would give Liverpool another dimension if was he to go to Anfield.”

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Sporting’s Matheus Nunes, but it would appear their interest in the Portugal international is only tentative at the moment.

However, the Reds’ priority is to look to solve the issues currently presented to Jürgen Klopp in midfield via internal solutions.

Harvey Elliott is believed to be the man who will play in Thiago’s absence off the back of his recent contract renewal.

But signing Tielemans could be a wise move on the Liverpool’s behalf.

Liverpool’s midfield lacks depth in terms of quality and signing Tielemans would certainly improve Jürgen Klopp’s options in that regard.

But the Leicester star may be holding out for a move to Arsenal this summer despite, reportedly being open to a Liverpool switch.

The Belgium international would be a nailed-on starter for the Gunners whereas he would be relegated to more of a squad role at Liverpool when Thiago returns from his injury.

Arsenal do have strong options in their midfield, but Tielemans would be better suited to Arsenal's progressive style of play than Granit Xhaka.

With Tielemans lining up alongside Martin Ødegaard in Arsenal’s more offensively oriented midfield positions, Mikel Arteta’s side could wreak all sorts of attacking havoc.

There is some doubt over whether Leicester would be willing to sell their star man this late into the window, but with one year remaining on his contract, the Foxes could be tempted to cash in.

With Jürgen Klopp looking to use current squad options to replace Thiago rather than dip into the transfer market, a move to Arsenal is more likely for Youri Tielemans this summer.
