Liverpool Agree To Sell Defender To Premier League Rival

Liverpool Agree To Sell Defender To Premier League Rival

Neco Williams’ move to Nottingham Forest from Liverpool is set to be finalised this week

Neco Williams’ move to Nottingham Forest is set to be finalised this week, the 21-year-old will leave Liverpool in a deal worth £17 million.

Many hoped Williams would be given another chance to impress at Anfield this season after promising performances on loan with Fulham and with Wales at international level.

However, the signing of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen effectively put an end to such hopes, opening the exit door for Williams this summer.

According to The Athletic, Williams will become Forest’s 5th summer signing should the deal go through as expected in the next few days.

The youngster’s positional versatility will be attractive to Forest boss Steve Cooper.

Cooper, who utilises a 5 at the back system at Forest, will be able to deploy Williams on the right hand-side of his backline, and on the left where he plays for his country.

He will become the second full-back to join the Premier League new boys this summer, with Giulian Biancone having already joined the club from Ligue 1 outfit Troyes.

Williams will be hoping regular playing time with Forest during the first half of the season will leave him well prepared to travel to the World Cup with Wales in November.

He will be joining a familiar face in new Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi, who was with Liverpool as a youngster.

Liverpool are well prepared for Williams’ exit even if Calvin Ramsay fails to acclimatise to the demands of the Premier League with ease.

The Reds have today announced Joe Gomez has signed a contract extension. He was Trent Alexander-Arnold's primary understudy at right-back last season.

The report from The Athletic indicates Forest’s summer business won’t end there.

The Midlands club relied heavily upon loan players, such as Tottenham-bound Djed Spence, last season, so their squad is somewhat depleted.

As such, Cooper wants to add another left-sided wing-back. They are tracking Huddersfield’s Harry Toffolo who’d cost the City Ground side rougly £2.5 million.

In addition to Williams and Toffolo, Forest would also like to recruit Wolves forward Morgan Gibbs-White.
