Tottenham Hotspur grab back title of biggest Premier League bottle jobs with loss to Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur grab back title of biggest Premier League bottle jobs with loss to Liverpool

Tottenham thought they'd won it but Spurs are going to Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur managed to prove that they, and not Arsenal, are still the Premier League's best bottle jobs, as they lost to Liverpool in a ridiculous ending.

For the second time in a week, Spurs found themselves three goals down in a matter of minutes, as hordes of the visiting fans to Anfield already thought they'd seen enough after 15 minutes.

However, they looked set to miss an all time comeback, as Harry Kane started what was to become a ridiculous ending to the match, by pulling one back before half time.

Son Heung-min then made it 3-2, having previously twice hit the post, only for two controversial refereeing decisions to further deny them.

However, in injury time, it looked like Richarlison would earn a share of the points for Ryan Mason's team, with a second comeback in a matter of days.

But, everyone seemed to forget that this is Spurs, and they somehow managed to throw away the draw, with Diogo Jota scoring an even later winner.

Kwizly Quiz

It had already been a rather crazy week in north London, with the absolutely embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United last Sunday starting it all.

At St James' Park, they had been 5-0 down after just 21 minutes, with fans understandably departing extremely early, and later getting their money back from the players.

That match was followed by Cristian Stellini becoming the first Premier League interim manager to be sacked before the end of his short spell at the club was meant to come to an end.

Then they managed to come from two goals down at half time to Manchester United, on Thursday night, to earn a much needed point.

But the craziness was to continue on Sunday, as Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, the latter from the penalty spot, all scored in 15 minutes, to cause fears of a repeat of the Newcastle humiliation.

After Spurs pulled it back to 3-2, Jota was lucky not to be send off, after a high foot on Oliver Skipp, and then Ibrahima Konate nearly gave away a penalty, pulling Richarlison back.

The Brazilian then ended his Premier League drought in the 93rd minute, heading home from Son's free kick, and picking up a yellow card for whipping off his shirt.

It was a waster booking though, as Lucas Moura's error set up Jota to score the winning goal, and lead Jurgen Klopp to injuring himself in celebration.

"Ultimate Spurs unlocked," said one fan.

"Liverpool winning at the death, the most Spurs thing ever," added a second.

Embracing the spirit of Jose Mourinho, a third joked, "Only Spurs could make a 3-0 comeback in the 90th minute and still find a way to lose the game. It’s in the history of Tottenham."

"Richarlison getting booked for celebrating that goal, only for Spurs to lose sums them up perfectly. Proper bottlejobs," argued another.

And a fifth poetically summed it up, posting, "The Narrative Gods weaved a simply, truly gorgeous tapestry there.

"They knew that a Richarlison goal was the most Liverpool thing ever but a Liverpool winner was the most Spurs thing ever. I pledge my allegiance to Them. I fear Them - yes - but I also love Them."
