Liverpool star Roberto Firmino has spoken out about his future following relentless speculation he is being targeted by Juventus.

Speaking to TNT Brasil (via Liverpool Echo) after the Red’s Community Shield triumph yesterday, Firmino asserted “I love this team, this city and the fans. I’m here. I want to stay of course.”

This will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans who were concerned another member of Jürgen Klopp’s famous front three would be torn away from them.

Mané of course left Anfield earlier in the transfer window after 6 successful seasons on Merseyside.

But his two former teammates remain a part of Jürgen Klopp’s future plans.

Mo Salah signed a record-breaking contract extension a few weeks ago which secured his long-term Liverpool future.

And Roberto Firmino will be hoping his loyalty will be rewarded via a new deal for him too as the 30-year-old has just 1 year left on his current one.

Firmino would have been heartened by the opportunity to start yesterday’s Community Shield contest with Manchester City.

Despite Darwin Nuñez’s big money arrival on Merseyside, the Uruguay international began Saturday’s match on the bench.

The 23-year-old did come on with some effect, however. He terrorised the Manchester City backline, forced Ruben Dias to concede a penalty and grabbed a late goal for himself too.

But as he acclimatises to the excessive demands of the Premier League, there will be a role for Firmino at Liverpool.

There could well be occasions when Nuñez needs to be taken out of the limelight this season and in such situations, the Brazilian will be waiting in the wings to take over.

For now, Liverpool fans can rest assured that their famous no. 9 will be sticking around for a little while yet.
