"Poor, poor player..." - Jurgen Klopp singles out Leeds youngster after Liverpool thrashing

Liverpool thrashed Leeds 6-1 on Monday night.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp singled out his favourite moment from the win over Leeds – and it wasn't one of side's six goals.

Liverpool returned to winning ways with a thumping 6-1 victory at Elland Road on Monday night.

Cody Gakpo put the Reds ahead from close-range shortly after the half-hour mark before Mohamed Salah added a second minutes later.

Luis Sinisterra pulled one back from Leeds after the break but Liverpool immediately restored their two-goal lead through Diogo Jota's first goal for the club in more than a year.

Salah scored his second later in the half before Jota also grabbed himself a brace with another well-taken finish.

Darwin Nunez then came off the bench to cap a comfortable win for the visitors, who kept alive their slim hopes of Champions League football next season.

Klopp expresses sympathy for Rutter

Speaking after the match, Klopp said his favourite moment wasn't one of the goals his side scored.

Instead, he highlighted a piece of pressing in the closing stages, when several Liverpool players hunted Leeds substitute Georginio Rutter for possession.

"The moment of the game, the best (one) I enjoyed the most was the 92nd minute," said Klopp.

"I think it was already five or six-one. We lose the ball and four players chase the poor, poor player from Leeds down in that moment.

"I think that's the basis for the whole game because that gave us stability. It was, from a counter-pressing point of view, definitely the best game we played this season.

"In possession probably as well. Being calm, prepared with little passes, preparing direction in a really good way.

"At least three goals we scored (came) after counter-press, which is obviously massively helpful. Then we were calm in the decisive moments to pass exceptional balls. I liked it a lot."

Klopp will be hoping to see the same hunger when his side return to action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
