Liverpool can address a long-standing issue in Mohamed Salah’s game should they sign Alexis Mac Allister.

The Brighton midfielder will decide on his future at the end of the season amid reports that Liverpool have placed the player on their list of potential summer reinforcements.

Mac Allister is poised to leave Brighton at the end of the campaign after four seasons on the south coast, and Jurgen Klopp is said to be an admirer of the world cup winner.

On the situation, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed on Thursday: “Liverpool have presented their project and also a financial proposal to Alexis Mac Allister. The club will insist in the next weeks; discussions advancing but the agreement is not done yet.

“Feeling remains Alexis will 100% leave Brighton and it will be early, May or June.”

United are also thought to be tracking Mac Allister, who took his tally for the season to nine goals in 29 appearances on Thursday evening, scoring a dramatic winning goal against the Old Trafford club in the 99th minute.

Mac Allister can solve Salah issue

On Thursday evening Mac Allister held his nerve to thump a high-stakes penalty kick beyond the clutches of David De Gea and win the game for the Seagulls.

In turn, Brighton have leapfrogged Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the Premier League and caused United to look nervously over their shoulders in the race for the Champions League places.

The composure Mac Allister displayed from the spot will have been noted by Klopp, given Liverpool’s penalty woes in recent times.

Salah is Liverpool’s penalty-taker. Indeed, though he missed his first-ever spot kick for the club against Huddersfield Town in October 2017, he quickly shrugged off the disappointment to rattle off 17 in a row in all competitions – including a penalty in the Champions League final against Tottenham.

However, this term Salah has struggled from the spot, failing to even hit the target against both Arsenal and Bournemouth. Moreover, across his career Salah has missed seven of 39 penalties.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister has proven to be a proficient penalty taker since making the move from Argentina to the Premier League.

Of his nine penalties at Brighton, Mac Allister has missed just one, which was against Wolves last season. It was the player’s second penalty of that encounter, with the first having been converted.

Moreover, the Argentinian has scored six spot kicks this term alone.
