What happened to Monaco's star-studded team that won 2016/17 Ligue 1 title with Kylian Mbappe

Monaco claimed a memorable Ligue One title win under Leonardo Jardim, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Bernardo Silva shining.

AS Monaco had one of the most exciting and talented sides in world football back in the 2016/17 season prior to their squad being completely ripped up.

Under Leonardo Jardim, the Principality outfit won an eighth Ligue One title after amassing 95 points from 38 games and finishing eight clear of the usually dominant Paris Saint-Germain.

They also enjoyed a dream run to the Champions League semi-finals, having beaten both Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in the knockout stages before being eliminated by Juventus over two legs.

Monaco finished second the following season before dropping right down to 17th in a major decline. The club has been brought back to life in recent times though and sit eighth in the Champions League table ahead of a trip to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal.

But that side from eight years ago was the definition of 'the streets will never forget' and many members of the Monaco team have gone on to achieve great things. So where are they now?

Danijel Subasic

A World Cup finalist with Croatia in 2018, Subasic left Monaco in 2020 after eight-and-a-half years and returned to old club Hajduk Split a year later before announcing his retirement in 2023.

Djibril Sidibe

The France international was a key member of the title-winning side, bombing on from right back. He played for two more seasons before getting a taste of English football with a loan spell at Everton and returned for another two campaigns. Sidibe penned a deal with AEK Athens in 2022, playing 42 times and heading back to Ligue One with Toulouse.

Jemerson

The Brazilian defender was a regular starter in 2016/17 and stayed put for another three seasons before his contract was terminated and he returned home with Corinthians. After a spell back in France with Mets, he has turned out for both Atletico Mineiro and Gremio, his current club.

Kamil Glik

A rock at the back, Glik left for Italian side Benevento in 2020 and is now playing back in his native Poland with Cracovia, where he has a contract until 2025.

Benjamin Mendy

Earned a ÂŁ50 million move to City in 2017 and won three Premier League titles. Mendy was suspended by the club after being charged with multiple counts of rape, which he was later found not guilty of. The left-back resumed his playing career back in France with Lorient in 2023.

Fabinho

Able to play in defender or in central midfield, Fabinho was a key part of Liverpool's success under Jurgen Klopp - winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup before moving to Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.

Joao Moutinho

Capped 146 times by Portugal, Moutinho had a solid stint in the Premier League with Wolves and racked up more than 200 appearances.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

Bakayoko got a massive move Chelsea off the back of his Monaco success but struggled to get going in west London. He was loaned to AC Milan (twice), Napoli and back to Monaco before signing for Lorient on a free transfer after his deal expired. Still only 30, he penned a deal with Greek side PAOK in the summer.

Bernardo Silva

City made Silva a priority signing in 2017 after he termomented them in two legs and is well on course to achieve legendary status at the club after playing a starring role in six Premier League title wins, four League Cups, two FA Cups and the Champions League as part of the 2022/23 treble triumph.

Kylian Mbappe

World Cup winner Mbappe had just two seasons at Monaco before moving on to pastures new with PSG and becoming their record goalscorer and lifting six Ligue One titles. France's golden boy secured a dream transfer to Real Madrid in the summer as he looks to finally win the Champions League.

Radamel Falcao

Falcao bagged 30 goals in all competitions in 2016/17 following on from loan spells with Manchester United and Chelsea. He enjoyed a two-year stint with Galatasaray before heading back to La Liga with Rayo Vallecano and ending up going to back in Colombia with current club Millonarios in the summer.

Thomas Lemar

Lemar was chased by Arsenal after his heroics the season before but got his big move a year on when he signed for Atletico Madrid in a €70 million switch. Lemar is still with Diego Simeone's side and is closing in on 200 appearances.
