Leicester City could be on the verge of making one of the most surprising and fun moves of transfer deadline day, as the club chase down Marcelo.

It's been a very lean summer at the King Power Stadium when it comes to incoming signings, with Alex Smithies the only signing before Thursday.

Brendan Rodgers' team have looked like they've needed more players, following their poor start to the season, and the departure of Wesley Fofana only made that more abundantly clear.

On deadline day they finally announced spending money on a player, for the first time this summer, when centre back Wout Faes joined from Reims, finally replacing Fofana.

Schalke midfielder Amine Harit and Atalanta's Jeremie Boga have both been linked with Rodgers' team, but it's another move that is now capturing the imagination.

According to Spanish journalist Marti Miras, the Premier League side are 'very close' to signing Marcelo and are just a medical away from signing the Brazilian, although others have reported it won't be happening.

The 34-year-old left Real at the end of last season, after 15 years with the club, having been on the bench for their Champions League final victory over Liverpool.

He was visibly emotional and had everyone in tears, as he sat in his farewell press conference for Los Blancos.

"Thanks to my teammates, coaches. But above all to the kit men, to the security, to the people who work behind the scenes and have dirty work," the former Fluminense player said.

"I want to highlight their work, because I only dedicate myself to playing and I always had everything ready. I want to thank my wife, because she has always been by my side since I started playing football. If I am what I am today, it is because of you Clarice.

"When I left Brazil I had in mind to play the Champions League. And today I leave here being the player with the most titles in the history of the biggest club in the world."

If he did join England's top tier, Marcelo could meet up with fellow former Real teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro, both now at Manchester United.

In a brilliant twist of fate, the Foxes are due to face United on Thursday night.

You can't help but enjoy the transfer window...
