Wesley Fofana didn't look too bothered by Leicester City goal

The Leicester centre back was left out of the team after he asked, with Chelsea wanting to sign the Frenchman.

Wesley Fofana had no interest in celebrating his own team's goal, as Leicester City took the lead against Southampton, as the video below shows.

There has been a lot of speculation about Fofana's future as a Leicester player this summer, with Chelsea in desperate pursuit of the highly rated centre back.

The Foxes are standing strong on not selling the Frenchman so far, and reportedly want a world record fee for Fofana, after he signed a new contract earlier this year.

That would mean the Blues having to cough up more money for him than Manchester United did when buying Harry Maguire from the same club in 2019.

With Leicester unwilling to drop their asking price, Fofana has so far seen no movement in his desired move to west London, which has affected his frame of mind.

According to Brendan Rodgers, the former Saint-Etienne defender asked to be left out of the game with Southampton, which is why he was sat in the stands.

He seemed to have very little excitement about his teammates goal as he sat in his seat, not even clapping, as those around him celebrated James Maddison's opener.

Asked after the match by NBC Sports Soccer, about the centre back's absence, Rodgers said, "One, a change in system and two, I mentioned in the week about coming into a Premier League game and maybe one or two players not being in the right frame of mind, you can’t carry them and certainly we can’t.

"So that’s the reason for the change."

He will certainly hope to have the defender back in the near future, after Maddison's first half free kick strike wasn't enough for the former Premier League winners.

Che Adams scored two second half goals to earn Southampton their first win of the season, and leave Rodgers' side still looking for theirs.

It's not just Chelsea who want to sign Fofana, with Arsenal fans also keen to see the Frenchman move to the Emirates Stadium to partner with fellow countryman William Saliba.

A group of the Gunners' fans told the defender as much after the two sides faced each other in a previous game week this season.

Saliba has certainly impressed at the start of the season, scoring on Saturday evening against Bournemouth, as Arsenal continued their undefeated start to the season.
