Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jude Bellingham and the rest of the Real Madrid squad have been sent a stark warning by club chiefs after their humbling defeat to PSG at the Club World Cup.

Real Madrid crashed out of the competition with a 4-0 loss to Champions League winners PSG in the last four on Wednesday.

Xabi Alonso's side badly struggled against the French champions, who will now face Chelsea in the final on Sunday.

Real Madrid are set to take immediate action following the defeat, bolstering their squad with the signing of left-back Alvaro Carreras from Benfica for around £43m.

Carreras is set to be joined by other new signings, with Spanish publication Marca reporting that Alonso has expressed a need for further reinforcements - believing some "key elements" are missing from his squad.

That comes after Real Madrid allowed Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez to leave the club following the conclusion of their Club World Cup campaign, with the former now set to join AC Milan on a free transfer.

Real Madrid chiefs have also given Alonso a clear mandate to take tough decisions that could impact both established players like Bellingham and new signings such as Alexander-Arnold, who joined the Spanish giants from Liverpool earlier this summer.

Marca report that the "head coach has been told to make decisions, not to hesitate - not in the slightest" when it comes to team selection.

Alonso has been given "full freedom in decision-making" and will be allowed to drop any player from his squad no matter how high-profile or expensive they are, as the "name of the player in question doesn't matter".

The club are also said to have warned players that any who "don't want to join the cause will have a tough time".

Which players could leave Real Madrid?

Several high-profile Real Madrid players are being linked with potential exits this summer, including Brazilian wingers Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo.

Spanish outlet El Chiringuito report that Vinicius Jr's contract negotiations with Real Madrid have stalled in recent weeks, with his future at the club now in "limbo".

Vinicius Jr has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League after his agents met with vice president, Saad Al Lazeez, in Prague in 2023.

In 2024, he reportedly received a five-year contract offer of €1 billion (£864 million) to move to Saudi, and clubs are said to still be interested in the Brazil international.

His compatriot Rodrygo has seen his minutes dramatically reduced since Alonso replaced Carlo Ancelotti as head coach and has been linked with several Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

When asked by a fan in New York during the Club World Cup if he was planning to move to Arsenal, Rodrygo declined to answer - fuelling speculation a move could be on the cards this summer.

Spanish publication SER (via DefensaCentral) have also reported that in addition to Rodrygo, three others players could leave this summer - fellow Brazilian Endrick, striker Gonzalo Garcia and midfielder Dani Ceballos.
