What are Real Madrid's options at right-back?

Dani Carvajal has been Real Madrid's stalwart at right back in recent years.

But in October 2024, the 33-year-old Spaniard tore his cruciate ligament, ruling him out until the the start of the 24/25 season.

Carvajal enjoyed a successful 2023/24 campaign, winning both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, before lifting the Euro's with Spain.

His impressive performances were recognised as he finished fourth in the Ballon d'or behind Rodri and his teammates Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham.

Lucas Vazquez has often deputised in Carvajal's place, playing 32 times in La Liga last season.

But the 33-year-old's contract is set to expire and he will leave Real Madrid after the Club World Cup.

Federico Valverde has also been used at right-back, starting in that position at the Emirates in their Champions League quarter-final defeat.

The 26-year-old Uruguryan is a key player for Real Madrid and will play a significant role in midfield next season.
