Rodrygo bombshell drops as Real Madrid open door to stunning transfer and Premier League club have already opened talks

The Brazilian fell out of favour with Carlo Ancelotti towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign and could move to the Premier League.

Real Madrid are open to selling Rodrygo ahead of the 2025/26 La Liga campaign as Xabi Alonso’s squad takes shape.

Alonso, 43, replaced Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid head coach ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and has since seen his side progress to the last eight of the competition as they are set to face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen have arrived at the club and been quickly included in Alonso’s starting XIs during the Club World Cup, with a supporting cast of Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Vinicius Junior and little-known forward Gonzalo Garcia also helping Los Blancos’ case.

However, Brazilian winger Rodrygo, 24, has played twice out of a possible four games he was available for, and he could soon move on from the Spanish giants.

There were concerns towards the end of last season that the player lacked motivation for training, something which he later dismissed.

And the Premier League seems his most likely destination, with the report from The Athletic suggesting that Arsenal are one of the clubs “monitoring” the player’s situation closely and "have held preliminary talks with the player’s representatives in recent weeks as they weigh up a move".

Rodrygo was previously linked with a move to Liverpool before he joined Real Madrid from Santos in 2019.

The winger can play on both the left and right flank and would add proven experience and know-how of winning silverware to the Arsenal squad ahead of a huge Premier League campaign.

Eric Goes, Rodrygo's father, recently complained about his son's situation at Real Madrid, something which reportedly did not go down well with the club.

The Gunners also have interest in Newcastle left-winger Anthony Gordon and Athletic Club's Nico Williams.

Arsenal have already signed former Chelsea and Real goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi and Brentford skipper Christian Norgaard look set to move to the club.

The Gunners are also in talks over signing centre-back Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia as well as being heavily linked with moves for Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.
