Barcelona Star to Miss 'Rest of Season' as Club Already Identify Replacement

Barcelona will be forced into the transfer market after suffering a major injury blow.

Hansi Flick’s side currently sit top of the La Liga table, one point ahead of rivals Real Madrid with a game ahead of their game against Villarreal.

Prior to kick-off, the club confirmed one of their first-team stars has suffered a major injury blow that could rule him out for the rest of the season.

Ex-Chelsea star Andreas Christensen is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after the club confirmed he suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in training.

The Danish international has been an important player for the Catalan side this season meaning the January transfer window could be used to find a replacement.

That could be bad news for Liverpool as reports suggest Barcelona will turn their attention to lure Marc Guehi to the Nou Camp.

Guehi saw a deadline day move to Liverpool collapse in the final minutes having already undergone a medical over a switch to Anfield and has confirmed he will not be signing a new deal at Crystal Palace ahead of his current deal expiring in the summer.

All the top clubs have been linked with a move for the England international and Team Talk suggest a January bid from Barcelona is not out of the question.

Despite their financial issues, a bid of £17m could be tabled to tempt the centre-back to Spain. Liverpool’s proposed deal in the summer totalled believed to be in the range of £35m.

Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, also namedropped Guehi during an interview with Spanish radio station SER Catalunya describing the centre-back as a ‘good player’.

Liverpool have also been linked with a January move to beat competition to sign the defender when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

However, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner believes their club captain is likely to see out his deal at Selhurst Park and not depart in the New Year.

He said: "I think Marc will stay until the end of the season.

“That's my understanding now. Nobody told me something different.

"I know there's no offer right now so why expect something different?"

Guehi is expected to be a key player during England’s World Cup campaign which will only intensify interest in his signature.
