John Stones turnaround at Manchester City has seen him become one of the world's best defenders in the world but only three years ago Wolverhampton Wanderers' fans didn't think he was good enough for them.
There is little doubt how important Stones has been to City's incredible Treble success this season, with one moment from the FA Cup final showing how much of a complete player he's become.
Calling him a defender is confusing right now in fairness considering the 3-2-4-1 system that Pep Guardiola is now using for City.

Stones has been playing as part of the two in front of the defence alongside Rodri and there's very little he can't do right now.
It's not always been the case for the former Everton defender though who has been heavily criticised in the past with even a League Two striker once mocking him.
Back in 2017 Guardiola even felt compelled to defend the player for his role in the team's Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich.

But in the summer of 2020 Stones was inked with leaving City with the arrivals of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake, with Wolves amongst those reportedly interested.
However it seems fans of the club weren't too happy with their side spending a potential £20 million on the England international as comments which are going viral on social media proved.
"He’s a slow David Luiz without the aggression. A liability. Call me old fashioned but I like a defender who can be trusted to defend not just be able to dribble past a forward in his own box and then lose it!!!", argued one fan.

"Always got a mistake in him - defo wouldn’t start in front of Coady [Coady] or [Willy] Boly," a second genuinely said.
"No, not good enough for us," a third simply stated.
A fourth was just as frank adding: "No thanks. I make no apologies for wanting better, and I trust Nuno to bring in better."
"If we did buy him it would be on the strict understanding that he would be well behind Coady in the pecking order," commented another.

One brutally dismissed it, replying: "Never in a month of Sundays. Soft and useless."
