James Ward-Prowse Scores Incredible Free Kick From 35 Yards Out

The Southampton midfielder is now only behind David Beckham when it comes to Premier League free kick goals, after scoring against Wolves.

James Ward-Prowse scored a special free kick goal, to put him behind only David Beckham when it comes to the amount of set pieces scored in the Premier League.

Ward-Prowse's set pieces have become an integral part of his game and of Southampton's success in recent years, whether it's scoring or assisting his teammates.

On Saturday afternoon the Saints faced Wolves in the league, and found themselves 2-0 down in the second half, thanks to goals from Raul Jimenez, from a penalty, and Connor Coady.

With time ebbing away, and Ralph Hasenhuttl's team facing a first loss since the beginning of December, Ward-Prowse got the chance on goal in what can only be described as JWP territory.

The 27-year-old scored an absolutely scorching free kick from about 35 yards out, beating Jose Sa in brilliant fashion, with just six minutes of normal time to go.

The goal is the 12th one that the Southampton captain has scored in England's top tier, having made his debut for them when they were still in the Championship, and put him in some exalted company.

It means that he is now level with Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Gianfranco Zola when it comes to goals from direct free kicks.

Only David Beckham has scored more goals in those circumstances in the league's history, with the former Manchester United star having bagged 18 goals in such fashion.

Unfortunately for Ward-Prowse, Hasenhuttl and Saints' fans, the goal didn't mean all too much with Adama Traore going on to make it 3-1 just a few months later.
