What a finish.

Jamal Musiala proved his superstar status as his late winner against Cologne claimed Bayern Munich their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.

It was a dramatic final day in the Bundesliga - one that would have felt euphoric as a Bayern supporter and devastating as a Borussia Dortmund fan.

Dortmund would have claimed their first title since the 2011-12 season if they had beaten Mainz at home, a side that had lost their last four games by an aggregate score of 13-3.

But things did not go to plan. Die Borussen fell behind to Andreas Hanche-Olsen’s 15th-minute header only for Sebastian Haller to see his penalty saved moments later. Karim Onisiwo then doubled Mainz’s lead in the 24th minute to pile the pressure on Dortmund.

Meanwhile, serial league winner Kingsley Coman had given Bayern Munich a one-goal lead against Cologne, to move the Bavarian giants to the Bundesliga summit.

Back in Dortmund, Raphael Guerreiro offered the hosts hope when he hammered in a cross from Gio Reyna in the 69th minute.

And while Dortmund were rallying Bayern’s Serge Gnabry gifted Cologne a penalty. Dejan Ljubicic stepped up to net an 81st-minute spot kick and put Dortmund back in the driving seat.

That should have been the end of the drama… it was not.

Musiala winner vs Cologne

In the 89th minute, Gnabry teed up Musiala on the edge of the box, who took a liquid first touch, swivelled onto his favoured right foot and unleashed a fierce shot into the bottom right corner.

On the Richter scale of late drama, it was not quite a Manchester City Sergio Aguero moment, but it was still special.

The baby-faced German international wheeled away in celebration and his jubilant team-mates followed suit.

The 20-year-old took responsibility, pulled a lacklustre Bayern side over the line and once again proved his credentials as one of the world’s most prodigious young talents.

And though Niklas Sule scored deep into time added on for Dortmund it would make no difference as Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern snatched the title.

Before a ball was kicked it looked likely to be Dortmund’s day. What transpired was Musiala's ascension to hero-status in Bavaria.
