Manchester United fans blame Harry Maguire for Anthony Martial's injury

Maguire didn't cover himself in glory as United were knocked out of the Europa League against Sevilla and now he's being blamed for this too

Harry Maguire had one of his worst nights in a Manchester United shirt, and now he's being blamed for Anthony Martial's latest injury.

On Wednesday night a commentator compared Dayot Upamecano's nightmare performance for Bayern Munich against Manchester City to Maguire.

The United centre back must have had the 50 Cent "why'd he say f**k me for?" meme going over and over in his mind, and it must have been the only thing still in his head on Thursday night.

At least that's the only excuse the club captain could have had for his disastrous performances as they were knocked out of the Europa League by Sevilla.

Erik ten Hag's team had looked to be cruising when 2-0 up with less than 10 minutes to play of the first leg last week, only for own goals by Tyrell Malacia and and Maguire to completely throw them off course.

The centre back and goalkeeper David de Gea then conspired to gift the Spanish side the lead in the return leg on Thursday night, in a shocking moment.

Gary Neville defended the England international but the evidence suggested he was at least partially at fault following the atrocious pass from his goalkeeper.

Now fans have found another thing to blame the 30-year-old for, with Martial going off injured in the 54th minute, and fans have realised it's because of a clash between the two teammates.

On the defender's performances over two legs, one fan said, "He got one goal, one assist against us and broke Martial this fixture."

Defending the French forward, another added, "Everyone on Martial’s back last night for getting injured. "Please watch the replay from the corner, Harry Maguire lands on Martial’s ankle, you can’t even be angry at Martial for that, I remember Maguire nearly taking Pogba’s head clean off. He’s a calamity!"

"You guys will be totally unsurprised to know that Harry Maguire was the one who injured Martial," noted a third.

"Just turned out it's Maguire who injured Martial when that corner was being taken. What have we done to deserve Maguire?", asked another.

Also having an existential crisis, a fifth posted, "Forget about the first goal, look at what Maguire did, he pushed Sabitzer to fall on Martial 's leg and eventually injured Martial. What did I do in the past to deserve this kind of suffering."

It certainly wasn't a good night for anyone involved for the Old Trafford team but it was a particularly woeful night for Maguire, it could take some time to recover from.
