Commentator appears to call Dayot Upamecano ‘Upamaguire’ during Man City vs. Bayern Munich

Manchester City sealed their place in the Champions League semi-final after knocking out Bayern Munich

Fans can't quite believe the fact that a commentator appeared to call Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano 'Upamaguire' during the Champions League clash against Manchester City.

On Wednesday night, Bayern arrived at the Allianz Arena knowing they would need a miracle to overturn the 3-0 deficit against Pep Guardiola’s men.

During what was a cagey first half, City were given a big chance to put the tie to bed after Upamecano was harshly adjudged to have handled Ilkay Gundogan’s shot.

However, Erling Haaland missed the spot kick as his shot went over the crossbar.

In the second half, City finally broke the deadlock as Kevin De Bruyne found Haaland with an inch-perfect pass.

The Norwegian striker sat Upamecano down before lashing the ball into the back of Yann Sommer’s net.

Although Bayern did later score from the penalty spot, they were knocked out of the Champions League by an aggregate score of 4-1.

During the match, fans picked up the moment when an Arabic commentator appeared to call Upamecano ‘Upamaguire’, referencing Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, whose performances have been put under the microscope.

Fans were quick to react on social media.

One said: “No way the commentator called Upamecano “ Upamaguire”.

Another tweeted: “Arabian commentary called him UpaMaguire.”

A third fan added: “Upamecano more like Upamaguire.”

Someone else wrote: “Bruh really said Upamaguire.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Nahhhh no way did the guy actually call Upamecano Upamaguire hahahaha.”

In truth, Upamecano endured a torrid night at the Etihad during the first leg and was again below his best in the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

City will now be up against holders Real Madrid in the semi-final as they continue their quest for a first-ever triumph in the Champions League.

Can City go all the way and be crowned the kings of Europe? Only time will tell.
