Harry Maguire had a moment to forget as Sevilla take the lead against Manchester United in the Europa League quarter final second leg.

Heading into the second leg tie in Seville, United will be kicking themselves after letting a comfortable 2-0 lead slip away last week at Old Trafford.

A brace from Marcel Sabitzer had Erik ten Hag’s men 2-0 up in the first half but Sevilla fought back in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Two unfortunate own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire meant the match ended 2-2.

On Thursday night, with the tie well in the balance, United made the worst possible start inside the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

With just seven minutes on the clock, Sevilla went ahead after Erik Lamela pounced on a mistake by United captain Maguire.

The ball eventually fell to Moroccan striker Youssef En Nesyri who finished expertly into the back of David de Gea’s net.

Fans were quick to react to the goal on social media.

One said: “David de Gea + Harry Maguire. Nightmare!”

Another tweeted: “Well, we all know what Maguire is by now, but he loves to keep providing it to us. Nightmare start.”

A third fan added: “Poor Harry Maguire can’t catch a break! Nightmare start for United and their captain.”

Someone else wrote: “Maguire and De Gea are having another nightmare. That's why we need to look for a new Keeper who can play out from the back.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Worst possible start for United and Maguire, come on lads wake up!”

Throughout the season, Maguire’s performances have been put under the microscope by both pundits and fans.

This mistake against Sevilla will not help his course as he looks to regain the trust of Ten Hag and the United faithful.

United now need to score twice if they want to go through inside 90 minutes.
