Jim White brutally calls out red-faced Danny Murphy for Harry Kane remarks, it's seriously awkward to watch

Jim White brutally calls out red-faced Danny Murphy for Harry Kane remarks, it's seriously awkward to watch

Danny Murphy had urged in his column that Harry Kane should sign for a club like Bayern Munich if they made an approach for the Spurs star.

Danny Murphy was left red-faced after talkSPORT host Jim White called him out over his remarks on what Harry Kane ‘deserves’ at his current club Tottenham.

Kane is out of contract with Spurs in 2024 and has been tipped with a potential move away from the north London club, with Manchester United linked with him.

The 29-year-old striker overtook Jimmy Greaves to become Spurs’ all-time leading scorer after his side’s 1-0 victory against Manchester City earlier this month.

However, Kane has often been criticised for his lack of silverware and the England captain has been urged to leave Spurs in a bid to win trophies in his career.

Speaking on talkSPORT, White asked Murphy if he still felt Tottenham were no closer to delivering sought-after silverware for United target Kane.

“Do you still feel that Tottenham are no closer to delivering what you say he needs, what he deserves and that’s trophies? So, no closer?” he asked Murphy.

Responding to White, Murphy said: “I don’t understand what he ‘deserves,’ I don’t get that.”

However, Murphy was then interrupted by White after telling him that he wrote those words in his column, which left the talkSPORT pundit dumbfounded.

After a long, awkward pause in the live studio, which saw Simon Jordan break out in laughter, Murphy eventually responded: “No, fair enough, if I put it, but I don’t think him individually necessarily deserves to win trophies.”

Speaking in his column in The Daily Mail last week, Murphy suggested that Kane had entered the “now-or-never stage” in his career ahead of turning 30.

He added that Tottenham star Kane should leave his boyhood club if a European heavyweight like Bayern Munich made an approach for him.

“That [trophies] is what you work so hard for and unfortunately Spurs are no nearer giving Kane what he deserves as a world-class striker,” Murphy wrote.

“He turns 30 this summer, it’s getting to that now-or-never stage but it shows how good his form is that one of the biggest clubs in Europe are still interested.

“If Bayern Munich come calling for Harry Kane this summer, he should go. It would be hugely sad if a player of his quality finished without winning a trophy. It’s something he himself would regret after retirement.

“When I reflect on my career, the best memories are those at Liverpool winning something; the joy at the final whistle, celebrating with team-mates and supporters, the parties and parades afterwards.”
