Gary Neville singled out Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard for praise after the midfielder’s dazzling performance against Chelsea on Sunday.

The Gunners returned to the top of the Premier League after Gabriel Magalhães tapped in from close range to give Mikel Arteta’s side a crucial win at Stamford Bridge.

Week by week Arsenal are proving their title credentials, having also beaten Tottenham and Liverpool at home this season.

Norwegen creative midfielder Odegaard has been central to the Gunners’ relentless league form this season, as the club look to become English champions for the 14th time.

The 23-year-old's performances have received praise from several quarters this term, with Manchester United legend Neville the latest to express his admiration for the playmaker.

When discussing the likelihood of Arsenal sustaining their league position, Neville told Sky Sports: “I love watching their front players.

“I love Jesus, I love Saka, I love Martinelli, absolutely fantastic. Odegaard is class, he is class.”

The Gunners, who are two points clear of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side, are looking to win their first league title since 2003-04 when the ‘Invincibles’ team went through an entire campaign unbeaten.

Other than a tame 3-1 defeat at Man Utd in September, Arsenal’s league form has been relentless.

While Neville has been impressed by Arsenal’s progress this season he stressed that Arteta’s side will continue to be “questioned” until they prove they can perform throughout an entire season.

Last season the north Londoners look set for their first Champions League finish since 2016 until a late collapse saw the Gunners pipped by rivals Tottenham for the final top-four spot.

Neville said: "We have to question Arsenal.

"Arsenal fans come at me every single week, every single week because I will still continue to question them until I don’t see a moment like I did with five or six games to go last season and they get through those moments and they finish in the top-four.

"They haven’t proven it yet. It’s like a boxer who hasn’t won a title. You have to question them. But what you can’t question is that was a really, really good performance.

"It’s still very early in the season and we’ve got this unique break for the World Cup, we don’t know how players are going to react to that. There have to be questions because we don’t know what will happen after that but Arsenal have been fantastic in this first part of the season.”
