Held every year, the Ballon d’Or celebrates the top performer in world football across the previous 12 months.

It is gone under various different names and guises over the years since it was founded by France Football in 1956, but always with the same objective - to crown football’s greatest player.

During the first three decades of the award, the winning roll was dominated by top European clubs that remain powerhouses to this day.

Alfredo Di Stefano won the award twice with Real Madrid, Johan Cruyff three times with Ajax and Barcelona, and Michel Platini three times with Juventus.

There were winners from Manchester United, AC Milan and Benfica. Blackpool were represented in 1956, when Sir Stanley Matthews scooped the honour. Only one club represented on the list no longer exist, with Czech side Dukla Prague, whose star midfielder Josef Masopust won the award in 1962, being dissolved in 1996.

In this quiz, we’re asking you to name every Ballon d’Or winner since 1990. There are 21 different winners in all.
